I just updated the ‘about’ section of the site with some real talk. I thought I would just keep it in the third person and blog it. I do feel extraordinarily grateful to do this for a job. It has always been my dream to work for myself in a creative capacity. My family was surprisingly supportive of my decision to pursue a career and education in art. My grandfather, who was a carpenter his entire life, and having just retired, pulled me aside and said, ‘whatever you do, don’t bust your ass for your entire life like I did, just to fill the pockets of the guy in front of you.’ I took that advice to heart, and have always been looking ahead of myself, trying to work harder, and with more sincerity, than the guy in front of me. However, all of that work would be in vain if it were not for the overwhelming support that I have received from friends, family, bloggers, blog followers, magazine editors and fellow designers and artists. Thank you so much for your purchases, kind words, posts and re-blogs, it means the world to me. I love you all very much, and can’t wait to see where we go in 2012. Happy holidays, and thank you for making this the best year of my entire life. xo Caesy Oney About Draught Dry Goods: Draught Dry Goods is the sole endeavor of Caesy Oney, a multidisciplinary artist and designer currently residing in Portland, Oregon. Every facet of the company, ranging from product design, product fabrication, graphic identity, web design, product photography, sales, order fulfillment/shipping, customer service, branding, web aggregation, and (so on and so forth) is an extension of his artistic practice, and realized wholly through his vision and effort alone. The business is built upon a self-sufficient model. Every project pays for the next project, no money has ever been borrowed against the business, and Oney is not indebted to a lender or partner, resulting in complete creative control and license. The business was started when he taught himself how to construct bags and work with leather, which in turn, paid for one tool and one piece of equipment at a time over the course of three years in Montana. The first collection launched in January of 2011, with a modest 15-20 pieces. By autumn of 2011, the second collection (FW11) had more than doubled with 35-50 pieces. Almost every dollar earned by Draught (after travel, food, and shelter) is put back into the business for current and future projects. Oney wanted to make a point of mentioning this, not out of ego, but rather, to emphasize how grateful he feels for all of the support that Draught has received thus far. He feels extraordinarily blessed to be able to do this for a living, albeit a consistent 60 hour work week. What started in a basement, has now expanded to a large workshop and office in Portland, Oregon. As the project continues to grow over the years, he will never forget the value of business built with the love and support from friends, family, and community.
